From the Brow of Zeus

About Me

Heyas! I'm Zeus Poplar, a 29 year old writer from California.

When not working on my upcoming collection of short stories (ETA: Later this year), I rant, rave, and make'a de funny. If you're reading this, you probably know me from Ask Thor (the RPGamer Q&A letters column), Videogame Lookalikes, Square.org or as the tall shadow lurking outside your kitchen window.

And now a highlight reel of my past work:

RPGamer: Selling Out

When RPGamer needed a Q&A guy, I sent in an application. Despite the slave wages, competition was fierce, but I gave it my best and wrote a sample letters column. And who did RPGamer go with? Well, the other guy. When the other guy quit, who did they go with?

Me, that's who.

Ask Thor was a lot of fun. RPGamer was where I honed my craft of impersonating Zach Meston's writing style and somehow convincing otherwise intelligent women to lust after my Thunderpants. But after four short months... I was gone. (This is where I'd blow out a candle and look all Antonio Banderas mysterious and cool. Except there's nothing mysterious about me, and I'm closer to lukewarm than cool.)

Videogame Lookalikes

I'm also the guy who points out game characters who look like celebrities. Maybe I wasn't the first (checked USEnet?) but I was definitely the first to make it my thing. Since their humble beginnings as "RPG Lookalikes," the page has grown, changing as little as possible.

Strange as it is, Videogame Lookalikes is my longest running and most successful project. It's certainly the only thing I've done that got me on cable television (well, except for my brief stint on Judge Judy). You can spot my ungainly URL popping up in pixelated YouTube videos and shrewedly cropped out articles, but usually, the only kind of links we get are hotlinks.

The World Is Square

I got started on Square.org, the official website of an IRC-themed channel on DALnet. My End of Time articles were an unexpected hit, especially considering their humble beginnings mocking Lara Croft and failed infiltrations by rival channels who sent in cross-dressing secret agents.

He's back, baby!

</Duke Nukem voice>

Ironic Consumer. Bucket Bros. Titular Movie Theme Songs. This is what I work on when I should be working on the aforementioned book. And I think that's enough for now, though I'll no doubt be back here seven hundred times to tinker with his page.

I'll do anything to get out of doing something else. Procrastionation keeps me so productive.
